On Friday, I attended a free cultural event in Southampton named Alive and Ablaze. I anticipated an entertaining evening as I often enjoy this kind of event held by the city and luckily I wasn't disappointed. Mechanical metal structures adorned with flames filled the recently completed Guildhall Square with a fire lined path leading to a 'fire garden', where musicians performed.
I enjoyed all of this but I think the atmosphere definitely made it for me. My flatmate and I both agreed that the night was very reminiscent of our trip to Sweden last winter. This thought came to us whilst in a bar having just removed our layers of faux fur clothing, or accessories, and sipping on mulled wine. A hog roast and roasted chestnuts were soon to follow. It definitely heightened my appetite for a holiday, preferably Scandinavian and accompanied by my splendid flatmate of course! This panorama was taken on the bridge connecting an island named Djurgården to the rest of the city. If you get the chance to holiday here, definitely visit the open-air museum of Skansen which is particularly enchanting when you are the only guests there.
