Warhol

On the weekend I was invited to the private view of an Andy Warhol exhibition at the Southampton City Art Gallery due to my involvement with EjectorSeat Arts Festival 2011. The exhibition itself is a presentation of around 200 works in both the City Art Gallery and the John Hansard Gallery, I didn't get chance to see the latter on Saturday but I'll make sure to pay it a visit. 'The Factory' is the focal point of the right wing, based on Warhol's silver studio and on the left is the mass of prints and paintings from various points in his career, I had a very enjoyable time and that was mainly thanks to my plus one, the fabulous Sharon Lloyd! It didn't take long before Sharon was stopped to do a vox pop for a couple of first year media students, giving her opinion on the exhibition, but after that we had a nice catch up aided by a glass of white wine. As I hadn't been to a private view quite like this, I wasn't sure what to wear but as you can see below grey dominated with my trusty feather necklace to finish.

In a few months time, at the EjectorSeat Festival, I will be arranging a workshop between the City Art Gallery, the Festival, Solent University and possibly Winchester Fashion Week and the brief I have been sending out is as follows:

Last year there was an absence of fashion related activities but this time around an exciting opportunity for fashion students and staff has emerged. The City Art and the John Hansard Galleries are co-staging a major exhibition of around two hundred works by Andy Warhol, taken from the ARTIST ROOMS collection, and will be one of the most significant art exhibitions in Southampton for generations. This is where the Solent’s Fashion team come in, an official and memorable connection between Solent, Ejector Seat Arts and this Andy Warhol exhibition is set to be formed at the festival. There is the definite opportunity for fashion styling and make up students to run workshops and styling the public under the Andy Warhol theme, for example transforming volunteers into characters from his prints. All looks created by students will be set to build up to a catwalk finale.

Animal Army

It's unusual that I post about my own clothes (except jewellery) and that's mainly down to having no money to spend on them. However, yesterday my mum treated me to some for our upcoming family holiday! My brother was also feeling uncharacteristically generous as he gave me an unwanted Topman card worth £45 that his Dad's side of the family gave him as a birthday present and I'll certainly be putting it to good use! I still have a few pounds on the gift card Katie Allen gave me too which I'm intending to spend on Topman jewellery though I must say I've been repeatedly let down every time I look, not enough animal themed items anymore it seems! The T shirts below are from Primark, a combination of past military and animal trends (my favourites) and it quite surprised me to find them in there. I think the most important thing to me is the absence of chimpanzees, I can tolerate the gorilla but I was getting pretty fed up of chimps dominating cheap printed tees. Also, the last image is of a necklace I bought in Topman about a month ago, keeping with the feathers of course!
